The deep freeze continues! With the high pressure system still moving through, clear skies and no precipitation have remained. With that stays the cold and prevailing winds from the polar jet stream. That high pressure system is moving on however and a low pressure system is starting to move in. The next few days have a chance of snow with partly cloudy skies, which will be brought by the low pressure system. Currently we are experiencing a sunny day with moderate wind, though less wind than we have been experiencing in the last few days. In the days to come, we should expect increasing cloud cover, chance of precipitation, and a slight rise in temperature, followed by yet another plummet in temperature. The map at the bottom of the post shows the current state of the polar jet stream at 250 hPa (hectopascals). It can be seen that the main portion of the jet stream is currently impacting the southern and eastern portions of the United States most heavily.
