A collective rejoice can be heard around the Chippewa Valley, as spring makes a bold statement today! A warm front is currently pushing through, as temperatures are expected to peak around 70°F today. High pressure systems are currently quite prominent over much of the country, so clear skies and somewhat windy conditions seem like the current trend for most places. Once this warm front pushes through we should expect to see a bit of a cooling, with temperatures hovering right around 60°F for the rest of the work week, and falling to around 50°F heading into Sunday. Rain showers are also predicted for the entirety of the weekend. All in all this week is a welcome change from the recent trends!

This pressure map shows the current pressure and front trends in the country. A number of high pressure systems are currently moving through the country, leading to a trend of generally clear skies over much of the states.

This Accuweather map shows the predicted atmospheric and weather patterns heading into the weekend. Rain is expected for much of the central region of the country, while the warm front appears to be overtaken by the cold front pushing towards the southeast.

This shows the current jet stream patterns over the country. The dip that has been migrating eastward over the last few is currently dipping down, centered around the Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. This is allowing some warm air to push up into our area, now that the trough has moved on.

This shows the current surface trends for the Midwest. Dominant winds over much of the viewing area seem to be west to southwest. Almost everywhere is reporting clear skies and temperatures are warm for much of the central-western portions of the map.

This sounding from Minneapolis, Minnesota shows what we would expect for a day like today. Very low atmospheric activity is being reported.
